These darling faces are my inspiration. When children come into my booth and begin looking around I watch their faces and pay close attention to what they look at and how they respond. The little girl on the left is one of my biggest fans and she also is my model for my yearly photo shoot. She left this day with a pink cat that she decided on after about 5 minutes of searching for the perfect plush toy.

Live Simply

I love the first of the year because my busy season is over and I can just play with fabric and make what ever I want. I don't worry if it will sell, I just make it because my heart created it. This pillow is 12" x 15" and was made from my girlfriend's son's crib bumper materials. She gave me the bumper so I could use the insides to make my new grand baby a crib bumper. It turned out beautiful which reminds me that I should take a picture of it one of these days.

If you haven't heard of Zibbet today is your lucky day. It is an online marketplace filled with hand made products. I thought my product would fit in nicely so I opened a store called BSL Creations. New Years Resolution Time

The first of the year is a time for goals and resolutions. Most of us need to loose the weight we put on, count me in for that one. We want a better job, better relationships with the ones we love, more money, travel, etc.

Remember the Michael Jackson's song Man in the Mirror? "I'm looking at the man in the mirror, I'm asking him to change his way..... if you want to make the world a better place then look at yourself and change."

The problem is that we are blind to ourselves. We can't really see how we behave or understand the ripple effect we create with our actions. We behave the way we were conditioned to behave. Just like that pit bull who was raised to be mean or if lucky raised to be a lover. We can't do anything about our past but we can change our future.

If you are an adult and the kind of person who seems to get screwed often with bad business transactions, unfriendly encounters, friends taking advantage of you, etc. you need to know you are not a victim. I know that is harsh, I am sorry but it needs to be said. If everyone is treating you like this it is because of what you are sending out. Plain and simply, "you get what you give." This is even more important; if you are not giving out negativity but you are thinking something negative such as, "he is going to screw me, I just know it!" Guess what? He will because you set the idea into motion with your mind. You put energy into making that happen.

Thoughts= Feelings=Action= Results

Now there are times when the gut can trigger a message of warning that needs to be listened to. This is the tricky part. How do you distinguish between the two messages? The one that you are manifesting or the one that comes from truth? I don't have an answer for that. You will have to discover it on your own. When you get to the point of your life when you know only goodness will come to you, the messages to beware are clear.

Life can be so beautiful and fun when you are surrounded by love and your skepticism is gone. It is never too late to become the person you want to be and why not now, early in January. Put it on your list for your goals and work on looking at the world with love and respect instead of the opposite.

Here are a few ideas to help you get started in transforming your thinking:

When you begin to think something negative, stop yourself and restructure your sentence in a positive way. Change this whisper; "I just know it isn't going to work out" to "I am confident this will work out." Change, "I am never getting rid of this weight" to "I am eating right to get rid of this weight."
When you are speaking with someone consider them kind, responsible and loving even if you don't know them. Expect the best from them, treat them with respect and you will get that back from them. "You get what you give." When you want love, give love. When you want respect, give respect.

The Law of the Garbage Truck

Some people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Inspirational Cards for Teenagers, I Am Cards, Who Am I Cards

I am so happy to show you my newest product. If you have been following my business you know that it all started in 2001 with I AM cards. I reluctantly stopped making these cards a year later because I could not find a way to manufacture them without going out of the country. During the year I was making and selling these cards (for adults and children) the ones that sold the most of were my kids cards.Therapists especially liked the cards, they used them in therapy as a tool to get kids to open up about their feelings.

In 2009 I decided to re-create my vision of my cards with a more passive type of message and the new name, Daily Whisper. My passion for helping people speak to themselves in a more loving way has not diminished. It is still my main focus but it has taken a back seat since I fell in love with making plush toys! I gave my adult and kids cards a new look and started all over. However, the manufacturing process is way too time consuming for me and I needed a printer.

I am so happy to say that I found a local printer to make my cards and they are putting them in nice bundles of 30 and wrapping them in cellophane. I still need to figure out how to present them, as a kit? in a pouch? in a plastic box? That will come to me and I don't mind suggestions. In the mean time the little package will work for now. My adult cards are going into the printer today but what I have right now and I am so thrilled about them are my Daily Whisper cards for teenagers. After years of thinking about them, they are ready to sell and I am very happy with the way they turned out. I am so happy to be able to show them to you.

Let's face it, it is tough being a teenager. Their peer pressure and desire to fit in can be overwhelming. They are stuck in the middle of being a child and an adult. And unfortunately they don't share their deepest feelings with anyone and because of that they can feel alone.

Daily Whisper cards are tailored for teens. The cards speak their language and assure them that life is worth living. They give teens a more positive way to speak to themselves about their daily concerns. The cards touch on body image, school, self, friends and family. There are also cards for the sensitive subjects; how to deal with bullies, sex and drugs.

Here is a sampling of three cards: "I do my very best. This is my life and I am responsible for my own outcome," "I choose my friends carefully. I would rather have no friends than the wrong friends," and "It's okay to fail sometimes. That only means I need to learn from it and try again."

Table Covers for Craft Fairs and Boutiques

Many people have asked me about my table cover. I made it so that I can interchange the skirt with the different seasons. Here it is with my summer skirt in green and holiday skirt in red.

Making the top:

My top is made of muslin but you can choose what ever fabric you like. It should not be very stiff, find a soft fabric that you can wash and dry. I designed the top like a fitted bottom bed sheet with elastic on the corners. After adding the elastic I put the top back on the table and marked where my buttons should be sewn on. They are about every 15", all the way around the top. If you would prefer to use Velcro that would work also. Next I sewed on the buttons.The buttons can be plain or fun, make sure they will match all of your fabric choices. I used heart buttons.

Making the skirt.

Measure the height of the table and cut material with enough allowance for a nice hem on top, bottom and ends. Sew the skirts hems, add the button holes and you are finished!

Booth Display Ideas for Stuffed Animals

Here is the way I am setting up my booth this season. I am really happy with the functionality of it. It is easy to see my customers and the grid wall keeps them far enough from me to not feel like they are being watched. Although I can see everyone through the grids so that I can be sure no one is stealing my creations. This booth was 8 feet square. My tables are 6 feet wide and the grid wall is 2 feet wide.

Our First Grand Baby is Coming Late December!

My beautiful daughter is pregnant with our first grand baby and we are all thrilled. Last weekend we had her baby shower and she walked away with lots of fun items for her baby girl. My darling neighbor donated her glider to my daughter, the same glider that loved her friend's two babies and then my friend's two babies. So 2 families and 4 babies later my daughter gets this vintage glider to rock her babies to sleep. My daughter picked out the fabric and I covered the cushions. Here is the final outcome of which I surprised my daughter with at her shower.

Stuffed Animals Spark Imagination

Last Sunday a boy and his mother that came to my booth. His name was Jeffrey and he was 10 years old. He began playing with one toy then another and he was making stories up about each one. It was fun to watch, he kept at it for about 5 minutes. Finally I commented to his mom that he had quite an imagination. She smiled and replied back that it was unusual for him and that he typically does not play like that. He wanted about 4 of my items but mom said she was on a budget and could not afford to buy any now. I felt bad for Jeffrey but I understand being on a budget. I gave his mom my card and I hope she contacts me in the near future.

My memory of Jeffrey encourages my creativity. It seems many of our children today don't have an opportunity to use their imagination because of the saturation of video games, sports, etc. Using our imagination is very necessary, it promotes thinking out of the box, inventions and freedom of thought. We need to encourage our future Spielberg, Jobs and Gates with anything they can use their imagination with, whether it is paints, Legos, blocks or Cuddle Wumkins!

Being the artist that I am; a bit whimsical but serious, I wanted to create a conduit for love notes for our children and partners. Creating a Happy Life

In Daniel Gilbert's book, Stumbling on Happiness he says that humans are lousy at predicting what will bring us joy. His research has taught us that there are many factors that create a sense of well-being. Here is a summary of his findings:

Commitment: People who commit to relationships are happier than those who don't. When people commit to something that's expensive or difficult to get out of, they report feeling happier.

Little Things: Worry less about finding large sources for joy and instead find a steady stream of small sources. When good things happen a lot, over time it changes your life.

Hang in There: He tells people who have experienced hardship to just hang on. Let time do what time does well. You'll be surprised in a year how much better you are.

Go to Church (or somewhere): Church goers are happier than non-church goers but not for reasons people expect. The feeling of being a part of a community brings us joy.

Giving: Those who spend money on others are the happier than those who don't.

Investment in Experiences: Create lasting memories with someone. When we are connected well with others we feel most happy.

Monster's Rule

These days monsters are everywhere. Lady Gaga, the "mother monster" has 11,698,513 Twitter followers all calling themselves little monsters. I don't remember when this all began do you? The Ugly Doll has been in our life for many years now and I suppose we can call them monsters. Maybe that is where the phenomenon began.

Personally I only like friendly monsters. The silly looking kind like these:

Monsters from BSL Creations come in many different forms. We have the simple monster shaped pillow. He is good for resting your head on but be careful he may bite!

Then we have the monsters that serve a purpose. These are tooth fairy pillows made for that child that has just a little monster in them.

Then we have the Cuddle Wumkins little monster that you can't help but smile when you look at them. Get one in your hands and well, you will just fall in love!

What Do People Want?

My imagination is going strong these days. I am loving the idea of making what ever comes to my mind. I must admit that the idea of manufacturing one item is boring to me. I enjoy the process of creation and I am trying to find something the younger generation would like. I have mastered the ideal of a baby boomer being one myself but the younger generations are a puzzle to me. I often ask people who come to my booths what they like best on my table and I get answers across the board. An eleven year old girl likes small things, another likes the monster pillow. One grandpa loves the Cuddle Wumkins and another doesn't. A 5 year old boy likes anything with a heart and another likes anything without a heart. This kind of information makes me realize that I can't please everyone but I can please myself and to please myself I need to stay in the creative mode and not the production mode.

Here is a new dog style for me. I decided to give them a more modern look. This one is hand made with recycled materials. He stands 14" tall.

This one is made of fleece so he is as soft as he is squishy.

I was inspired by a dog figurine my sister gave me for Christmas many years age. I like the way he turned out and I think I will have some fun with colors and fabrics as I make more.

Penguins

When my daughter was a young girl her aunt gave her a penguin. He was soft and squishy, about 20" tall and as cute as a button. Julia named him Pengie and God help us if we every left him behind on a family trip our outing. Julia's older brothers used to torment her by mistreating Pengie. He was never physically harmed but he was thrown over the balcony, held captive in the back seat window and buried in the show upside down. Looking back Julia can laugh like we did back then but at the time she wasn't happy about the torture her penguin went through. By nightfall Pengie was always safely back in her arms for a restful nights sleep and peace would fill our home. Pengie is still a part of Julia's adult life. He doesn't have the sparkle he once had but he has the history which makes us all smile. Pengie brought out the fun in all of us as well as compassion and comfort.

When I see a penguin my heart gets filled with joy as I remember a beautiful time in my kid's life. This little Cuddle Wumkin with his penguin belly patch makes me smile. He is for sale at my Cuddle Wumkin store or $18.00.

This pillow is made with a patch of the cutest little robot material. I fell in love with the material and have been looking for a use for it. I decided to try it on a pillow for a little boy. As usual for me, this pillow has a pocket on the back to hold treasures. The treasure can be a note from mom and dad saying, "We love you", or anything you can think of that will delight a child when they stumble upon it. It measures 5" x 5" and it is soft, squishy and washable. There are 5 styles and they are available on both at my Daily Whisper and Cuddle Wumkins store for $10.00 each.

Loving Work: Is it Possible?

They say if you do what you love for a living you will always be happy. I have also heard if you do what you love money will follow. I am not sure the second statement is true because in my mind if you do what you love and you turn it into a profession the fun slowly evaporates into work. Then how do we make a living at doing something we love? I am finding this out through my own journey. I make these cute little guys called Cuddle Wumkins.

Cuddle Wumkins awaken our imagination and bring us back to a more simple time when life was not so complicated. A time when a plush toy gave us comfort by being our friend.

Every time I fininsh sewing a Cuddle Wumkin I smile. I love their silly faces and plump bellies. I imagine what a child will feel holding it close and looking into its eyes. Then I become excited for another day of sewing and I look forward to my sales and seeing the expression on people's faces when they get a chance to experience them first hand.

It is a gift to be doing what I love and luckily I have a husband that supports me in many ways so I can find out in this journey if the second quote is true. That when you do what you love the money will follow. I will keep you posted on that!

Announcing my shop opening today April 14, 2011. Please drop by and see what I have. I design and sew Cuddle Wumkins. I call them that because they aren't a specific anything and they needed a name. My family was brainstorming names last year and my beautiful daughter threw Cuddle Wumkins out and it stuck.

Here is what they look like. They all have floppy hair and a big smile but their colors and decorations always change. Seldom will you find any two that are the same. Two may look the same but like twins there will be subtle differences. This means that you will always have a one-of-a-kind toy handmade especially for you by Barbara at BSL Creations. This picture shows why I love what I do. This little guy is holding his custom Comfy Bear Blanket given to him when he was born. Having something soft to hold is nice for anyone, young or old. Last week a woman purchased my gold colored bunny for her 82 year old girlfriend. There are no age limits, all is needed is a young heart to enjoy my plush toy line.

First Spring Boutique and Craft Show

It turned out to be a beautiful day for a craft show. One of the perks of being a vendor in a show like this are the other vendors you meet. I had a nice time speaking with the following people and their businesses are worth mentioning.

Nicole Carson has a business called SnapnStep. She designed a much needed product that keeps shoe laces from coming untied. It is such a perfect solution for an everyday problem.

Ramona Garcia sells Silpada Jewelry. If you haven't seen this jewelry you should look at the line. The pieces are absolutely beautiful and they are made with sterling silver. Ramona comes to your home and does a private showing for your friends. All party sales go toward a credit for you to buy jewelry. My only regret was that I could not meet everyone. It was a fun event and maybe next time I will have a helper so I can leave my booth for more that a few minutes.

New Sewing Pattern

The idea of making a sewing pattern has been on my mind for over a year but the timing has never been right to get it done. I finally made some time and I am happy to say it is almost finished. I am waiting now for a few friends to sew it up to make sure my directions are clear for the masses. I love the way it has turned out and here is a sneak preview of the front and back of the pattern. I have been designing the perfect bunny to add to the Cuddle Wumkin clan. Here are the prototypes that did not pass final inspection but are still cute in their own way.

Her pear shaped body didn't come out the way I had hoped. She is cute but funny looking.

I liked his body but his feet are too small and his nose and mouth is too big.

Here is the final bunny, that I am going to make many of for my upcoming shows. I am also in the process of making a pattern so people can sew their own.

I went ahopping with my BFF and we found 4 really cute prints for the heart and ear appliques. Two are boyish and two are girly. I will be sewing in light and dark camel, chocolate and tan. I may make some fun colors as well if I have time. Be sure and check out my Etsy site for all the finished dolls.

Simplifying Life

This needs to be done sometime. If you find yourself torn to move in too many different directions maybe you need to simplify your life as well. As of one hour ago I had 2 blog sites and 3 Face Book pages. Right now I have 1 blog site and 1 Face Book page and it feels real good! I do realize that the more real estate you have on the internet the better but keeping up with it is tough. I am trying to run a business and I could literally spend all day keeping writing my posts. Something had to give and I think I made some good choices.

What are you doing that is keeping you from comfortable productivity? Can you make any changes to improve your situation? I bet you can.......

New Business Name

I have been thinking about my business name Daily Whisper for quite sometime. It really isn't an adequate name for my business because I have never been able to merge Cuddle Wumkins with it. So I made a decision and it is now official. My new business name is BSL Creations (BSL are my initials). Yes, I know it isn't too original but I tell you, if you haven't searched a business name recently you should know that an original name is difficult to find. After 4 hours of searching I decided to go with this name. The name was used very little on the internet search and the domain name was available. Here is my new logo, created by Teri Kahan Design. She is very talented and I recommend her highly.

It has been a while since I published a post. We have been either working or ill over the past two months. I am happy to say that life is on the upswing again.

Last weekend we picked up our new hot rod. It is a 1937 Ford and we love it. It is a convertible so the top goes down for those nice sunny days or it can remain up if we are chilly or I don't want to wear a hat!

My husband is over the moon as you can understand.

Is it just me or do you feel the time flying by? I can't believe it is the first of February already.

I am working outside of my daily Whisper business for another 4 weeks. I took an eight week job as a On-Call Optician for a local optometrist to cover an employee who planned an 8 week leave of absence. I must admit I enjoy the work when I am there. The job is very satisfying to me because I enjoy helping people; the doctor so her business can run as usual, the doctor's assistant who needs a teammate and the patients who look to me for advice on frame and lens choices. It is a fun profession that I have been in for well over 25 years.

When I am not working at this job I am trying not to be stressed about the fact that I haven't written in this blog, written my newsletter, or sewn any new toys with the exception of 3 custom order items in the last 5 weeks. I miss the creativity of sewing my darling little plushies and I am disappointed to be missing Valentines day. I wanted to make some pink Cuddle Wumkins holding hearts for the holiday.

But alas, we can only do so much and God willing there will be plenty of Valentine's Days in my future. Instead I am staying calm, enjoying the journey of this outside job and hoping that I don't loose any customers do to the lack of new product on my shelves. I am finding time to make custom items so if you need anything made please don't hesitate to contact me through email or convo me through my Etsy store.

I love this statement. A child has a heart that is so pure. He is in a constant state of learning and his perception of life has not been altered. He is closer to God and everyday is seeing something for the first time.

After living in my home for ten years at times I take my house and neighborhood for granted. I see it every day so sometimes I forget to see the beauty around me. When I step into my childlike heart I remember that first day coming into the area and how beautiful I thought the streets and buildings were. At that moment, when I reflect back, I become grateful and realize how blessed I am. I do this exercise often to keep me grounded and in a constant state of gratefulness. I also use my childlike heart with people in my life that I find myself taking for granted. I remind myself why I care for them and how they added to my life and it changes how I behave around them.

It is easy to fall into routines and take what we have for granted. But this statement will help remind you look at your life differently. Take the time and appreciate what you have and who you have in your life by reflecting back and looking again with your childlike heart. Doing so will encourage love to bloom all over again.

I believe in allowing a child to have time to just "be". To sit with themselves and think, dream and let their imagination go. I think it is more difficult these days for our children to do this because of the constant activity and input from the media, phones, computers, computer games, and after school sports. I asked my son who is 20 if he ever gives himself time to sit quietly and he said that his quiet time is while he is in the shower! I believe him because I have never seen him anywhere where he wasn't getting input somehow. As a child he used to eat his cereal at breakfast while reading the cereal box.
I wonder how healthy it is for a child to be constantly bombarded with input. My son is very intelligent and happy so for him it seems to have worked. But what about the children who are creative and never get a chance to work with their creativity because of the high demand of our times? Are they still finding time to just be alone and are their parents intuitive enough to understand that this is what they need?

Buddy Walk for OC Down Syndrome Association

I was delighted to have a booth for this buddy walk in the Angel's Stadium on November 7th. Many families participated to raise money for this very worthwhile cause. It was easy to see that these were special families as they were calm and friendly with well mannered kids. I was just a spectator and vendor and I loved every minute the day. I had a great response to my product line. The children, with and without down syndrome loved my plushies. They twisted their necks to look more if their parent had them by the hand and walked by without stopping and the ones who stopped had the most delighted expressions on their faces. I was happy with my sales and the experience gave me the fuel to continue sewing and creating. There is something about a smiling child that warms my heart and fills me with joy. I can't think of a better feeling.

I love angels. I have them all over my house. I made these little angels from a modified version of DigiStitches Lolly Dolly. I had one to sell at my last craft show and the lady who bought it said I should make thousands. I appreciate her enthusiasm but just to be safe I made 7 for my next show. Craft Fairs

My sister Rebecca Casey creates whimsical ceramics and she has been selling through Art Fairs and Galleries for the last 5 years. Her work is a lot of fun and she has developed quite a following. She is such an inspiration to me and I am following her lead by participating in Art and Craft Fairs.

I am new to the idea of selling my product at fairs and I just finished my sixth one. I have to admit, I really enjoy the process of the day. My wonderful husband has been helping me set up my booth and then I carefully design the tables with my gifts. I still haven't figured out if they sell better laying on the table or hanging from my grid wall. I do know that people are drawn to touch and feel my plush toys. As the inventor, I think they are irresistible and call out to be touched!

Here is a picture of my booth with my plush toys hanging. The display got a lot of attention and I was sure this was the way to go.

The next craft fair I had more space so I set up my booth like this and I was surprised how little the grid wall was looked at, the tables got most of the attention on this day.

Last weekend I had the perfect location and believe me I said my thanks. I was put right inside the front door with a corner booth. Happy dance! I used my grid wall as a display for my banner and pictures and put all of my gifts on the two tables.

Next weekend I can only use one table for the fair I will be in so another design challenge is in front of me. But I don't mind, this is all part of the process and I find it enjoyable. The whole day is fun, I get to meet other crafters and enjoy their original work. Last weekend I met Ali Richardson who creates flower hair clips, her sister-in-law who makes craft kits for her business Smart-Bottom Kids and Sue Shepard who takes pictures of nature that look like the letters of the alphabet. All three of these ladies are doing what they love and offering a wonderful product.

The challenge at any Craft fair is to get customers. One of my customers, Laurie, is a woman who does all of her gift shopping at these types of fairs. She gives gifts that are made in the USA, hand crafted and original. If we had more Laurie's in this world, life would be more fun. I say, let's forget about the big warehouse store and China made product and let's focus on gifts that have a story behind them that are unique and handmade.

I grew up with a family that relocated quite a bit. I was forever the "new kid" at school and on the block. Because many people inherently stay in their own bubble, I had to seek the other kids who were also alone to find my friends and I met many wonderful childhood companions that way.

As adults I believe we tend to keep with the same friends we have had for a long time. I once worked with someone who said she had enough friends and could not add any more to her life. I didn't understand her way of thinking but I accepted it.

I wonder if you have new people on your block who need friends? Or someone at work who is new in town. If so and they seem like a pleasant person, invite them to lunch and share your story and let them tell you theirs. You may find that you have a lot in common and they may just have a story that will open a window in your mind.

I have always loved cats. My sisters, before I was born used to dress their cat up in a bonnet and dress and push her around in a stroller. In fact I recently saw a cat in this same predicament but he didn't look to pleased to be on display.

Picture this. When we have a pleasant conversation with a friend the words we speak are flowing back and forth from person to person. It feels good, and we can effortlessly stay charged with energy. When we are speaking with someone who is negative, disturbed, disruptive, angry, etc. the energy is different. The angry words have the ability to suck the energy away from the person they are talking to like a vacuum. That is why we feel exhausted when we leave a conversation with a person who has negative energy.

Years ago I made the decision to let go of the people who did not bring me joy or add value to my life. It wasn't easy to do but once I acclimated to the change my life was happier. Now my life is focused on positive energy and healthy conversations. There are always times when a temper flairs but that is part of life. I know when that happens is was the effect of something and not the nature of the personality.

Ellevation Market

April Beck put on the nicest market on Sunday at the Old World Village in Huntington Beach. We were all in a large banquet room, there must have been 40 vendors and the quality of the artists work was wonderful. I was very impressed with all of the booths.

I had a new display this time and I believe it brought people into my booth. I was happy with my sales and even more happy with the comments people shared with me about my product line. I am so awed and inspired by fellow artists, they are like a breath of fresh air to me.

Here is my wall of animals. It was made from grid panels, zip tied together with a painters drop cloth behind it for a more solid look. I also had a table to the left with small items that could not hang. A grandmother purchased the white cat with the purple belly patch (top middle) for her 7 year old granddaughter. I am so excited for the granddaughter, she and grandma will be very happy with the gift! Call me crazy but I love the fact that my animals are going to be loved by someone. That brings a smile to my face and makes the time I spend sewing all worth while.

Mondays

I love Mondays. It is my favorite day of the week. Mondays represent beginnings to me. It is the day I choose in the week to begin something new. For instance, today I am going to eat better and do so all week. I have a husband that can eat all night and in the last few months I have been going along with his madness. Also my friend Catherine works for Dove Chocolate and I hosted a Chocolate party in my home. In doing that I went to 2 more parties and now I am addicted to Dove chocolate! Needless to say I don't have my husbands metabolic rate so I am now wearing 6 pounds that I don't need or want. I would like to say it is all Steve and Catherine's fault but I am humble enough to accept full responsibility of my own actions. So hello Monday, here is my goal for this week. Loose 3 pounds by cutting out sweets and late night eating.

Tooth Fairy Pillows

My friends have been asking me to make a Tooth Fairy Pillow. I live on a block with lots of kids who are loosing their teeth. Back in my day the Tooth Fairy would find the tooth under my kids sleeping pillow and leave a nice reward. Today, the parents have gotten smarter. Maybe there is a Tooth Fairy website that asks parents to help out a bit and to find an easier way to leave the tooth so the Fairy would not have so much trouble.

After doing some research I could not find many pillows for boys. Since I raised 2 boys I always feel like boys are a little left out when it comes to cute stuff. Naturally, since stuffed monsters are my thing, it made since for me to make a Monster Tooth Fairy Pillow! It has been a fun process and I am please to post the first 3 colors which are on sale on my Etsy site.

The skies are blue, the birds are singing and a soft wind is blowing. A butterfly flew into the yard yesterday and I was delighted because we don't see butterflies often around here. This morning a little brown bird plucked a worm off my tomato bush and we cheered because the worms are eating the bush and we don't want to use any poison to get rid of them. Instead nature is doing the deed for us. It's all wonderful, and my heart is full of joy to witness such splendor on a daily basis.

That is the secret of my happiness. To find beauty in anything I can find it in. If I am out for a walk I will notice a beautiful flower, an interesting looking tree trunk, a cloud formation or a darling dog, and I will feel blessed to be a spectator of such beauty. And I remember we are all connected so I say thank you for the gift.

It may sound silly to you and it may not, but what ever you are thinking right now, I challenge you to try it. Go out and get some fresh air and while you are there, take time to marvel in the beauty around you. It is there waiting for you.

Recycled Materials

This fat cat purse is made out of a wool sweater. The sweater went through the washer and dryer and became boiled wool. I love boiled wool because the cut edges don't ravel. This was a fun project and I am going to make more for my upcoming boutiques.

Social Manners Simplified

In the past 2 weeks I have attended 3 Dove Chocolate home parties. My own and two of my friends. The two friends parties were completely different because of the make-up of people. One party had 10 people who were neighbors and they had no interest for anyone other than themselves. The other party had 12 friends who were fun, friendly and open for newcomers.

I believe there are courtesies we should abide by when we are at any social event. Whether we have a bunch of friends with us or not we should be nice and welcoming to any person who is alone and new to the group.

Here is a list of party manners:

1. Make eye contact with the person next to you, don't ignore them because that is rude.

(If you are shy and feel uncomfortable about this action, think about how uncomfortable you are making the person sitting by you feel. Get out of your own head and think about someone else.)

2. Engage in conversation with the person near to you. Even if it is the shallowest form of conversation, such as, "that was yummy!" Never say anything negative, stay light and cheerful.

3. When someone new comes into the room and it is clear that they are alone, go over and introduce yourself. This makes the newcomer feel more comfortable.

4. If you are in a circle of friends, a new person comes to the circle, step back to open the circle up, allow the newcomer in and introduce yourself.

5. Smile as often as you can and be open for conversation.

Here are opening questions to break the ice:

"Where do you live?"

"How do you know the host?"

These 2 questions can lead to some interesting conversation. Engage in the moment, smile and have fun.

These pictures show why I love my work so much. To make a child happy with my product warms my heart. Life is busy these days and kids need some down time to be with their own thoughts. Having a small friend to hang with and something to read that makes you feel good on the inside are inspirations to sit still for a bit...or play on the trampoline!

Daily Whisper's Impact Your Life

What is your opinion of this title? Do you see any relationship between the way you speak to yourself and the way your life is turning out? Take a moment and really think about this. What about your love life? Is it where you want it to be? If not, what is your daily whisper about your love life? What about your financial situation? Are you pleased with that? Or your relationship with your parents, children? I can go on and on and I know if you really think about it you will find a correlation between your thoughts and your life. Why is that? Because of this:

Your Thoughts = Your Feelings = Your actions = Results

What you believe comes true. We have heard many times; "if you believe you can, you can, and if you believe you can't, you can't." So how do we change a pattern of negativity into positivity? First of all you need to want to change. If you are not happy and you want to change you can. Begin with learning to have a better daily whisper. One way to do this is when you find yourself saying something that does not serve you, stop before finishing and rephrase the sentence with a positive slant. For instance if you have ever said, "Why would anyone love me?" instead say, "I am lovable." You may say to yourself that you don't believe that and I would say, "of course you don't, you have programmed yourself to believe it to be true." Keep in mind that most beliefs come from your youth by people who were not looking after your best interest. These beliefs do not need to be your reality.

I have written 15 Inspirational cards to assist you with letting go of old negative beliefs. If you read them regularly they will help you with your daily whisper and teach you how to care for yourself. I call them Daily Whisper Inspirational Cards because they are gentle and nurturing phrases that will sooth your soul and make you feel good. Take charge of your life and make it the best it can be. Plush Animals with Backpacks

I have been wondering how I can influence a child's self esteem with my plush animals. The idea that the animals make a child feel good and smile is nice but I wanted more. Friday morning I came up with this new idea to put backpacks filled with my affirmation cards on the back of my animals. These two are my prototypes and I think they turned out really well. Now a child can cuddle with a soft plush animal and also read, or have read to the affirmations in the backpack. The affirmations will teach the child about self worth, how to be with friends, behavior in school, manners and much more.

Ozzy and His New Dog

I just had to share these pictures because they bring to life what I have been hoping would be the reaction my animals have on children. Ozzy who is two years old, loves the gray dog Grandma gave him.

Ozzy looks like he needs a nap while holding his precious possessions.

Dog Scarves

We love our dogs, don't we? I love mine and I want them to be safe at all times. Once I lost a dog that didn't have any identification on. We had just given her a bath and let her outside not knowing that one of the kids had left the side gate open. We never found her and it was very sad for the whole family. I think about this often because I remove my dog's collar and identification while they are in the house and yard. I think it is more comfortable for them and less noisy for us. But if the dogs got out, I'm afraid history would repeat itself again.

It was because of this history lesson that I created the dog scarf. I think of the scarf as a Leisure Collar. Something for the dogs to wear in the home that is comfortable and makes no noise. I put my dogs name on the scarf and on the backside I wrote our phone number. Now the dogs are comfortable and safe.
